Current Maintenance: 4,334MW aligns with the maintenance plan for winter.

Decreased OCGT Usage

Lower Usage: OCGT usage significantly lower compared to the past two years.
OCGT Load Factor: 4.76% from May 1 to May 16, 2024, down from 22.07% last year.
Cost Reduction: R1.25 billion spent from April 1, 2024, to May 16, 2024, compared to R5.2 billion last year.

Winter 2024 Outlook

Winter Forecast: Eskom’s generation performance exceeds the winter forecast, which predicted unplanned outages between 14,000MW and 15,500MW with load shedding limited to Stage 2.

Teams Driving Recovery

Eskom’s skilled teams, including Power Station General Managers, are diligently working to restore additional generating capacity by bringing units back from unplanned outages and planned maintenance. A total of 3,900MW of generating capacity is planned to return to service by Monday, May 20, 2024.
