GE HealthCare Inks $44M Contract with BARDA to Develop AI-Driven Ultrasound Tech

What You Should Know:

– At the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) annual meeting, GE Healthcare announced new precision medicine to meet providers’ most pressing needs.

– GE Healthcare is committed to improving access to precision medicine around the world, especially for underserved communities.

Barriers to Precision Care

The global healthcare landscape faces significant hurdles in adopting precision medicine. Limited access to essential health services and diagnostic imaging plagues a vast portion of the world’s population. Even in areas with better access, shortages of resources and staff can hinder the use of crucial imaging techniques. Additionally, traditional methods for producing radioisotopes used in diagnostic scans are limited, impacting patient access to Theranostics, a personalized treatment combining diagnosis and therapy.

GE Healthcare’s Approach

GE Healthcare addresses these challenges through several innovations:

  • MINItrace Magni: This compact, cost-effective cyclotron enables reliable, in-house production of radioisotopes and radiometals, increasing access to critical tracers needed for Theranostics.
  • Omni Legend 21 cm PET/CT Scanner: This high-performance scanner offers exceptional image quality across various applications, including oncology, neurology, and cardiology. It also features AI-powered features to reduce radiation dosage and streamline workflow.
  • Omni Legend mobile: This portable PET/CT solution brings advanced scanning capabilities to regional and local healthcare facilities, reducing travel burdens for vulnerable patients.
  • Clarify DL: This AI-powered reconstruction technology delivers clearer and more accurate bone SPECT images while maintaining contrast, unlike traditional noise reduction techniques.
  • StarGuide digital SPECT/CT: This advanced system utilizes a 12 CZT detector design for exceptional 3D scans, ideal for Theranostics procedures.
  • MIM Software Acquisition: This acquisition expands GE Healthcare’s digital solutions portfolio, offering tools like MIM Encore and MIM SurePlan MRT to enhance workflow automation and efficiency across various care pathways.

“It’s not enough to develop cutting-edge solutions if they aren’t also made more accessible to clinicians and patients around the world,” shares Jean-Luc Procaccini, President & CEO, Molecular Imaging & Computed Tomography, GE HealthCare. “While there is still much work to be done, we are proud to offer a variety of technologies that can evolve with healthcare system needs and help support a patient’s entire care journey – from the systems required to create the radiotracers used to diagnose and monitor disease, to the imaging equipment used for a noninvasive look at a patient’s anatomy and treatment monitoring, to the software optimized to measure lesion size and dose. In the hands of clinicians, these tools help make the practice of precision care more accessible and aim to help improve patient outcomes globally.”
